Israel's cabinet is expected to meet in the coming hours ahead of a major deadline in the Lebanon ceasefire agreement.
Israel and Lebanon agreed on a ceasefire in late November.
It ended nearly 14 months of cross-border hostilities between Israeli forces and Hezbollah fighters.
Under the agreement, Israeli troops are scheduled to withdraw from southern Lebanon by January the 26th.
But media reports indicate cabinet members may discuss the possibility of staying put.
Lebanon has accused the Israeli army of violating the ceasefire multiple times.
Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr has the latest from Beirut, Lebanon.
Meron Rapoport, an editor at the Israeli news site Local Call, says Netanyahu has no interest in removing troops from Lebanon, and it’s unclear if the ceasefire in Gaza will last despite the Israeli public and military desiring that.
