The mandate of the UN peacekeepers who patrol Lebanon's southern border is due to expire at the end of the month.
Diplomats are trying to find a renewal compromise before the Security Council votes at the end of August.
The US and Israel oppose an unconditional renewal, but authorities in Lebanon say the overstretched army won’t be able to patrol the area alone.
