Myanmar’s earthquake epicentre in Sagaing remains devastated, with collapsed bridges, paralysed emergency services, and widespread structural damage. While some areas miraculously avoided fatalities, others saw tragic losses—including nine children killed in a monastery school. Hospitals are overwhelmed, with hundreds of patients treated outdoors due to unsafe buildings and extreme heat. Aftershocks complicate recovery efforts, forcing medical staff to prioritise makeshift care. Local volunteers distribute limited supplies amid chaotic scenes, but long-term needs outstrip capacity. Survivors, displaced and traumatised, face the ruins of homes and livelihoods with little immediate hope of rebuilding. The scale of destruction suggests recovery will require sustained international aid.
