Jamaica braces as Hurricane Melissa, with 230km/h winds, approaches. Airports are closed, and mandatory evacuations are underway.
The storm threatens catastrophic flooding, with forecasts of up to 72cm of rain. Heavy rain has already damaged homes in the Dominican Republic.
In Haiti, residents report being unprepared and plead for aid. The hurricane is expected to reach Cuba tonight and the Bahamas by Wednesday.
