Members of Venezuela's Warao indigenous community have faced hardship and violence after migrating to northern Brazil. Living in an abandoned stadium for years, their safety was shattered by the recent execution of two family members, highlighting increasing violence in Roraima state. Criminal groups, including Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua, operate in the region, exploiting desperate migrants and contributing to rising crime. Thousands of Venezuelans continue arriving in Brazil, many reliant on shelters provided by the government and NGOs. Activists fear anti-immigration attitudes in the US may worsen Brazil’s challenges, as migrants and indigenous communities struggle for dignity amidst inequality.

Al Jazeera’s Teresa Bo reports from the city of Boa Vista near the border.
