Iranian officials have categorically denied President Donald Trump's claim that Tehran has asked for a ceasefire, with Al Jazeera's Ali Hashem reporting from Tehran that the only related comment came from President Masoud Pezeshkian in a call with the head of the European Council, where he spoke of "the necessary resolve to bring this war to an end" but stressed the need for guarantees to prevent a recurrence of aggression.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reiterated yesterday that Iran is not seeking a ceasefire but rather a comprehensive end to the war.
Analysts and officials in Tehran argue that requesting a ceasefire would leave the conflict unresolved and leave Iran vulnerable to future attacks.
Araghchi also indicated in a phone call with Lebanese Speaker Nabih Berri that the end of the war in Iran is linked to the end of the war in Lebanon.
Iranian officials maintain that any resolution must include binding guarantees against future aggression, a condition they say is far from being met.
